I have designed an angle measurement jig for benefit while doing surgery. It has been submitted to Patent Office, Mumbai, India.

Field of the Invention:

This invention, in general relates to an orthopedic device and method for intra-operative angle measurement. In particular, the present invention is directed to real time angle measurement in space across any bone during surgery.

Brief Outline of Invention:

IMAG0575The present invention describes a jig which measures any angle in space across any bone while doing the actual surgery.

The said jig comprises of C -shaped arm having angle indicator on it, and comprising of two blocks, one to be adjusted at current position and the other to be adjusted at the future corrected angle position. Thus, angle can be measured in any plane keeping the instrument directly in contact with the bone.

Unique Advantages:

According to the present invention, the straight shaped device is preferred in using for per-cutaneous (outside the skin) insertion.

According to the present invention, the angulations measurement device is a reproducible, readjustible, reusable, sterilisable device and where required angles are calculated by the sum of vectors.

According to the present invention, the angulations measurement device is useable in various Osteotomies around hip joints like High Tibial Osteotomy, hip and Knee Arthroplasty, Hip fractures, Bipolar Hemiarthroplasty, Hip and knee, partial and total joint replacement, Paediatric Orthopaedics, Perthes Disease, Developmental dysplasia of hips, Malunited Fractures of Long Bones, measuring normal anatomical angles and versions, cubitus varus and valgus deformity correction, Genu varum and valgum deformity correction, Shoulder and Elbow Joint Replacement, Total Ankle Replacement, distal radius fractures malunions, Pelvis osteotomies and any other new or old conventional orthopaedic surgical procedure which involves precision angle measurement before execution of procedure.

Also this can be used for surgical training purposes in human cadavers or artificial saw bone models for medical students at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

From the foregoing, it can be seen that the disclosed angle measurement device according to the present invention provides a simple, easy to use and accurate device for enabling real time angle measurement in any plane in any bone, whether linear or angular.

According to the present invention, all technical and scientific terms used herein have the same meaning as commonly understood by any one of ordinary skill in the art where this invention belongs.
